Hasbro's Funny or Die Giveaway (ends 01/12)

We love family game nights in my house, although sadly we've fallen behind on this tradition since the birth of my youngest son back in March of this year. It's a tradition that I hope to return to soon, now that Taylor (aka Captain Fussypants) is starting to get on a more regular schedule. I have a pretty good selection of board games for us to choose from, but I'm always looking to expand our selections, especially as my kids get older. One game designed for the 13-and-up crowd that we haven't had the opportunity to try out yet is Hasbro's Funny or Die. After reading the review of the game, though, this is one that I definitely plan to add to our collection!

Welcome to the Hasbro’s Funny or Die game Giveaway!

Sponsored by: Hasbro

Hosted by: Gloriously Green Gal and Savory Savings

Co-hosted by: Keeping Your Cents

Hasbro's Funny or Die GameYou always see a lot of talk about Family Game Nights, and Krista who writes both Gloriously Green Gal and Savory Savings is a HUGE fan from those, however, what about the nights when the adults want to play and have fun? Maybe something slightly more entertaining and thought provoking than chasing an electronic monkey to throw rings on its tail (props to Chasin’ Cheeky – every time we have that game out the kids go CRAZY!). With that in mind, she was really excited to check out one of Hasbro’s newest additions to their 13 and older range of games, Funny or Die, a hysterical version of the video site in game form for your gaming pleasure! Be sure to check out her full review and the fun the grownups had having an adult game night while the kiddos watched a movie about unicorns. Would you like to win a copy of Hasbro’s Funny or Die and have an adult-friendly game night of your own? Enter with the Giveaway Tool below! This giveaway is open to US residents, ages 18 and older. The giveaway will run from December 29, 2013 through January 12, 2014 at 11 PM CST. Entries will be verified. Winner will be notified via email (consider adding to your safe list) – winner will have 48 hours to respond and claim prize or another winner will be selected. Good luck! Krista from Gloriously Green Gal and Savory Savings received products from this sponsor to facilitate her review, no other compensation was received. UGLee Ergonomic Pen Review and Giveaway (ends 01/04)

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

UGLee Pen Giveaway

I do a lot of writing. In addition to this blog (which to be fair is a lot more typing than handwriting), I also write fiction (which usually starts out handwritten), to-do lists, permission slips, threatening notes to my children about what privileges will be lost if chores don’t get done, baby book information, to-do lists about which to-do lists I need to tackle first, appointments on the calendar, checks to various companies for the privilege of having electricity and heat, and so on and so forth. As anyone who does a lot of writing knows, that can lead to cramped hands and fingers. So Dr. James Lee created the UGLee Ergonomic Pen, which is specially designed to be comfortable and prevent hand and finger cramps.

UGLee Pen 1

The UGLee Pen (the UG stands for “Ultimate Grip,” with “Lee” for the doctor who invented the pen) weighs less than half an ounce, making it very lightweight, and the grip is designed to follow the hand’s anatomy. The texture and “squishiness” of the grip makes it stick to your fingers without actually being sticky. (My husband said it reminded him of those little sticky hands you’d get out of the quarter machines at the grocery store, except for that it’s just squishy and not sticky). To be honest, I spent a fair amount of time just playing with the grip because the feel and texture are so neat. (Yes, I’m easily amused, why do you ask?)

UGLee Pen 2

Who else is this pen good for? Well, check out the video and see for yourself!

You can watch more videos and learn more about the benefits of the UGLee comfort grip pen on their website.

After using this pen for a couple of weeks, I noticed that I was able to write comfortably for a much longer stretch of time. My hands and fingers didn’t cramp up after ten or fifteen minutes like they do with my usual pen. These pens are also recommended for kids – according to the website, it can take years for children to build up the muscles to write efficiently, meaning kids are also at risk of repetitive stress injuries. I had my older children try out the pens – my two teenagers were especially grateful for the comfortable grips, with all the note-taking they have to do in school. They were able to get through an entire class of note-taking without experiencing cramps in their hands (no more excuses, ha ha!) I wanted my 8 year old to try this pen out as well, but he’s more a marker kid than a pen kid – I’ll be patiently waiting for Dr. Lee to come up with an ergonomic marker next!

 UGLee Pen 3
"The UGLee Pen is good for everyone who writes (even just a grocery list), and is especially helpful to people who experience pain and discomfort when writing, for example those with arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, etc., and for all children who are learning to write and are developing fine motor skills. It is also helpful for special-needs children who find holding a pen or pencil properly difficult. And for high-school and college students who have to take copious notes, this pen helps keep hands and fingers from cramping."
So where can you get these amazing pens? They’re sold right on the UGLee pen website. They’re sold in packs of three (your choice of seven different barrel colors) for just $19.99 (normally $30) plus $3.95 S&H. The ink refills (yes, these pens are refillable!) are sold in ten-packs (black, blue, or red ink) for $15 (plus $2.95 S&H). You can also contact them for pricing information if you’re interested in bulk orders.

How’d you like to win a three-pack of UGLee pens (in random colors) to try out for yourself? Here’s your chance, just enter using the Giveaway Tools widget below! (Please note that due to time constraints, the winner will have only 24 hours to respond to the notification email with his/her shipping information before an alternate winner will be selected).

Relish! Menu Planning Service Review by Melinda

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.
There are a lot of chores I don't mind doing, but I hate planning meals. I have a terrible time trying to come up with meal ideas that are healthy, easy, and that my family will eat. I'd heard about a few menu planning services before, but had never gotten around to trying one, so when I was given a chance to review Relish!, a meal planning website, I was thrilled.

Each Thursday a new menu goes up and then you can go in and customize your weekly menu to meet your family's needs. To create your own menu, you simply drag and drop from that week's recipe list onto your menu. You can also look at recipes from past menu lists and add them to your current week's menu. You can search for kid friendly recipes, vegetarian meals, and freezer meals. Once you have chosen your recipes, you can change the side dishes, change the number of servings, and create your shopping list.

The shopping list was very useful. It automatically adds all the ingredients you will need for the menu you created. You can also delete items you already have and add others. Once you have created your shopping list, you can print it or email it to yourself. It also organizes the shopping list into categories such as dairy, produce, and meat so your shopping trip is more efficient and takes less time, a huge plus when you go shopping with a toddler like I do.

While I was excited about the concept, I found that the Relish! service just didn't work for our family. I had a hard time finding recipes in the weekly menu that my family would eat. While I love the idea of making recipes like Coconut Crusted Fish Sticks with Mango Sauce, I knew there was no way I would get my husband and son to eat that. Many of the recipes were also more expensive than our typical meals and I found myself going over our budget, even including the budget friendly meals that are $12 for 4 servings. I was also a bit disappointed in some of the recipes I tried. They weren't terrible, but they weren't great either. I found myself wishing that each recipe had ratings and reviews from other members so I could get a better idea of whether my family would like it.

While I still love the idea of a meal planning service, I wouldn't recommend Relish! for a family with picky eaters or a really tight budget. However, if you are lucky enough to have kids and a spouse who will eat anything, Relish! would probably work very well for your family.

Relish! does include nutritional information for their recipes and also adds Weight Watcher Points® information. Subscriptions start at $7/month with the best value being $58.80 for a full year.
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

The Ominous Tour Grand Finale

What would you do if you held
infinite power in the palm of your hand?

We asked the hosts:
If you had a super-power, what would it be?

Read peoples minds

"This book is so intense.  I really enjoyed how everyone in the book seems to  be so much more evolved than the last book.  I love Lilli and Joel and the relationship that they have.  It's a beautiful thing.  The author did a great job of helping me feel the connection those two had."

7 - All That's Written - Interview

To give you an idea of the person behind the writer I’ve asked Cerece to answer the following question without thought.

What is your first reaction when you see:

super-fast healing! ;-)

What they didn’t know was that she hadn’t seen them coming, couldn’t see a damn thing beyond her brother out of the corner of her eye. But she didn’t need to see more than him to know that this was the safest place that she could be. Whatever happened to them now, they would be together. They would either escape and survive, or fight and die. She would not be taken away from the only family she had left.
~Excerpt from Order of the Seers Ch. 4 Run

Tonight, for the first time ever, I had a vision in my sleep! I know it wasn’t a dream because I felt completely connected and alert, like I only ever do when I can see the future. I saw a tall black man walking towards me. And even though his face was sunken in, with horrible milky-white eyes, I wasn’t afraid. Somehow, I knew he was coming to teach me something that I desperately want to know...
~Journal Entry from Lilli Knight

If I could have any super power I'd pick Mind Reading
because I would love to know what everyone really thinks about me C:

To the Guild, he was their archangel. Marcus was widely known as one of the most powerful Seers the Guild had ever come across. To Crane and Andreas, he was the crown jewel in their Quorum - their prized possession.

My name is Cerece Rennie Murphy, but, among my 5 siblings, I am known and teased by my superhero name, Wonder Worry, (and yes, I am a little worried about your reaction to what I just said). While in my youth, I used my superpower to whip minor setbacks into epic tragedies in 60 seconds flat, I no longer have the time to hone the skills I once possessed, which were handed down to me VERY CAREFULLY by my mother and her mother before.

Instead of spending my days imagining worst case scenarios, I am now on the front lines of true disaster prevention – treading the fine line between boo-boos and permanent brain damage, fighting crimes of curiosity, omission, absent-mindedness and sleep deprivation. I carry others down the winding, bumpy road of youth that starts out at the nexus of unique and brilliant but intersects with narcissistic serial killer at some distant point I hope fervently to avoid. As you might have guessed, I am a wife and mother of 2 small children. Luckily, my family lights up the sky so I never stumble too hard or lose my way.

I would lament the luxury of needless worry, but alas, I don’t have the energy. As I write this, I am losing a battle fought between my trusty sponge and a hardened glob of half-eaten cheese that traveled from the kitchen to the living room rug in the palm of a very small, but mischievous hand. Its stronghold on the fibers suggests occupancy of at least 2 days, but I’ll never know for sure. Rather than despair, I’ve chosen to retreat to my keyboard, noting that I have won the war - most of the rug is un-cheesed.

Before I worried. Now, I write.

I look forward to slowly, quietly, in my own shy way, becoming a part of this community. If you would like to get to know me and my work a bit better, you can visit me...

A powerful, rising force proceeds to carry out Mother Nature’s plan to systematically destroy towns, cities, states… and eventually, the world.

11/10: Launch

11/11: Kelly P’s Blog - Guest Post

Mother Earth’s plan is well thought out and her army is excellent at flattening towns with fires and sicknesses and poisons. Her only flaw was that her star Gemini, Onyx, has a conscience.

11/15: What’s Beyond Forks? - Guest Post

The results of the higher calcium carbonate mean less acid in the water, which is great news for the fish and other aquatic creatures, but not so much for the water treatment plants that make our water safe to drink!

11/20: Cu’s Ebook Giveaways - Guest Post

I’m not sure there is a clan or paranormal beings below the ocean, shifting the plates and following the commands of the earth, but the concept is intriguing, yes?

2. What inspired you to write this book?
I wanted to take the YA genre and add some spice to it by inserting a deeper concept they can hopefully relate to. Instead of just a love triangle and some supernatural creatures, we have an earth element; one that I hope will instill in them the importance of protecting our planet.

11/28: Mythical Books - Guest Post

We cut down the rain forests at a rate of 1 ½ acres every second which takes away many of our chances at finding cures for life threatening illnesses - We destroy approximately 137 plant, animal and insect species every day

12/2: Tressa's Wishful Endings - Excerpt

For some reason he felt the need to justify himself after entering someone. He knew there was some deep hidden morsel of doubt that what he was doing was right, that every human should be annihilated from existence. He would never divulge these doubts to himself or anyone else. It was a hidden monster within him and he would never lend it credit.

12/5: fuonlyknew - Guest Post

Brag about yourself and your work! This is still one of the hardest things for me to do. One of my mentors told me that if I wanted to be famous, or be perceived as important, I had to act like I was. I was a little horrified by this at first but I have practiced acting like I’m someone important and I think I’m finally getting the hang of it!

12/10: Bookworm Lisa - Guest Post

When my publisher first told me that I should start blogging and social marketing a year before my book would be released, I didn't understand the importance of that advice! Now, I do...

About Author Jessica O'Gorek

I was born in Chesapeake, Virginia on April 19th, 1979. I was raised within the American Indian religion and was taught great respect for the earth and all its living beings. Powwows, sweat lodges, vision quests, you name it, I’ve done it. I was the weird kid who would confront kids on the playground in elementary school when they squished a bug. I would very sincerely tell them what they were doing was morally wrong and then I would pray for the bug to come back as a butterfly in its next life.

I grew up admiring my father, Barry Weinstock, as an author. He took me around the country to different places so he could research and write his Wilderness Survival books. One of his greatest works, “The Path of Power,” was written with a great medicine man, Sunbear. When I was twelve I started hand writing novels. My first one was two thousand pages. My dad always encouraged me and would rave about my writing. He gave me the confidence I needed to keep writing and follow my dream. My daughter, who is twelve, is currently working on her first novel. I hope to continue the legacy.
